I have been a long time believer in vision.  Not so much in the law of attraction working on its own, but I do believe that without a clear vision, it makes it hard to create the right strategic plan to get you to that vision.

I found that when I biked across the country. It was the strong vision of biking across the country that gave me the direction for creating a bike route and a plan.  If I just set out to bike for 6 months I could have stayed home and ridden with the bike club in circles — round and round.

That clear vision allowed me to create a strategic plan that we focused on implementing.  The results — a route across the country, places to stay each night, 10 service project locations across the country and lots of places to visit and see.

I use this as a metaphor for business.  In business, your vision is what drives you.  Sharing that vision, expanding the vision all contribute to your ability to create strategies for success.

When the vision is unclear or non existent it is hard to really grow your business.  You can perhaps keep it going on a day to day — riding in circles fashion.  But to really grow you have to be aiming at something — clear and compelling.

That vision drives your actions.

Each year, I take some time to look at my vision, to review it and refine it and create that new strategic plan for the upcoming year!

It isn’t about New Year’s resolutions.  It is about — a clear and compelling vision for the future.

Article Marketing is an easy strategy to implement.

Critical pieces for developing your local marketing online presence are:

1. Web Presence and Blog.  At this point in the world of the Internet you must have a website.  We recommend a couple of different things.  One is a lead capture system using a squeeze page or landing page.  This enables you to capture the leads that are visiting your website.  You can see our lead capture in the upper right of this page.

But it is also vital to have a blog and be blogging regularly.  You can’t just create a website and hope people find it.  You need to be continuously engaging and educating your audience.  In the graphic above you can see that sales increase when a business blogs. People want to get to know YOU and your company.  They can do that through a blog. AND you also build trust and rapport through the process. These both increase your sales in the long run.

2. Social Media — 92% of all ONLINE adults use social media, but only 50% of small businesses are using social media to promote their business. Now these numbers aren’t totally comparable.  BUT there is a very good chance that many of your customers and prospects are online and using social media.  If you are not there then you are losing business.  Social media is another venue for engagement, relationship building and another place to build yourself as an expert in your field.

If you are not currently on any social media then you need to seriously evaluate why.  If you just have your head in the sand hoping that it will all go away, then it is time to pull it out and figure out how to best represent your company on social media and use it effectively for increasing your business.

Is it possible that you are leaving thousands of dollars on the table because you don’t like social media or you are afraid of it or you have another excuse to avoid being on….?

3. Local Search SEO — Using Local Listing Sites for More Exposure

Many local business owners are challenged in the same ways:  they create a website and their social media presence but they DO NOT succeed in leveraging them to attract new customers.

New foot traffic is the goal and the key is using local directory listings, but is often forgotten or missed in creating an effective online strategy.

The World Wide Web is like a HUGE phone book or yellow page directory. You have to stand out to be noticed.

Local listings are worth the investment of time or money (to hire out). The benefit far exceeds the investment. it means taking the time to fill out forms on different local listing sites. A few of the local listing sites are part of the social media sites you are probably already on, which makes it easier to complete.

Two of the really popular sites are offered by Google. This search engine is in charge of Google+ Businesses / Google+ Local. Other popular local listing sites include CitySearch, Bing Local and Yahoo Local Listings.

Yelp is also another site that you want to claim your profile on. This not only helps you attract web attention, but it provides a place for local customers to review your business. So it’s an effective way to convert potential customers into paying customers.

Be sure to completely fill out the profiles and provide as much information as possible about your company. Include things like: your office hours or business hours, phone number, contact info and website, as well as your other social media sites.  If you use a different URL for your mobile site, be sure that that is included too.

Completing a profile on these sites only solidifies your online presence and aids potential customers in finding during their business search.

Often the local listings that are found by web searches are perceived as more authentic and real than the typical web search results.  This is because here, they can access maps, customer reviews, videos, images and address verification to ensure authenticity.

Keeping this in mind, and actually taking the time to complete your local profiles can increase the business coming into you.

A comprehensive local marketing strategy is needed for both online and offline businesses.  The Internet is a resource that is critical for both.  Increasing your online presence in ways that truly benefit your business just makes sense. Critical pieces of your marketing plan should include minimally — a website and blog (can be one in the same), consistent social media presence, local listings, mobile friendly website, keyword optimization and SEO.  Don’t be left behind. Do You Lose Money With One Time Offers

Is the One Time Offer the Best Strategy?

I’ve been around Internet Marketing for a long time now.  I’ve purchased thousands of dollars worth of programs and services and seen MANY one time offers.  There’s a psychology to them.  And it obviously works because MANY Internet Marketers use them.  Many of the affiliate programs have it built right in so that you can add your One Time Offer to the check out process. I think I even have one on our Instagram Training!! We have an upsell to a video training program. 

The idea behind having a OTO is that you have the person right there EXCITED about what they are buying and it is the BEST time to upsell them on more.  Usually, a OTO is an add-on to what you are already buying — so, more of something — more features, more leads, more coaching — MORE!

And when the person opts into the OTO because they believe they will NEVER see the offer again — then you have made more money!! And that’s good  — right?  But what IF they would buy your OTO later?  Are you leaving money behind because you do not offer the OTO on the backend?  Could you offer it at a slightly higher price and still feel in alignment with what you said on the OTO page?  I think you are losing money!

There are times when I do not buy the OTO for a variety of reasons.  Sometimes its money — I don’t want to spend more money at that moment. Sometimes I don’t understand the value of the offer but after I have used the product I purchased I see WHY I really should be buying the OTO but now I can’t find it. Sometimes its just timing.

I see many marketers that will not sell that OTO later.  And I personally find it frustrating!!

To the point that it has changed my mind on how I market my own business. Yes, I have a couple of OTOs but they are available after the fact as well.  Maybe I shouldn’t be telling the world that!!  BUT, I think its important for people to have that chance to review and use the initial offering and then if they see that they want the video upgrade for example, they can access it.

If they don’t, then that’s fine too!

Say you have an upfront offer of an e-book or special report for $7 and you sell 100 of them.  Nice — $700, that feels great! Right?

With that report or book you have a OTO of additional training for $27 and you convert 5% on your OTO  — that’s $135, but what if there was an additional 20% that wants it after the fact — that’s 20 more sales at $27 or $540.  Potentially, after I have made my first sale to the client and started building rapport, relationship and expert status — they think –“oh, I really need that additional resource that Donna showed me” but they can’t get it.  I’ve left $540 on the table because of my strict OTO policy — never see it again.  Is is really serving you?  Let’s say that the conversion wasn’t the high 20% but just another 5% — that’s still $135 on the table.

Its worth evaluating whether the OTO works totally.  Yes, show it right during the check out or after the check out. yes, try to make the sale right then. CHANGE your wording to eliminate the total OTO lingo.  or add an additional fee once inside!  But they are now your customer and you do want to treat them well.

Once you start compiling your content and adding it to your blog, its time to start thinking about how you can make money with your new found information. I’ve got a few ideas to help you get started, so lets get to it I know this is what you were waiting on wasn’t it?

Of course, part of your purpose is to build your credibility and expertise with your client base or target market.  Content is a pre-seller to services and products.  People buy from people that they KNOW, LIKE and TRUST.  Your content should start doing this for you.  So, your blog can be a lead generating hub.  But there are other things that you can do to monetize your blog.  Just because you are a brick and mortar store does not mean that you can’t monetize your online properties (websites and blogs).

1. Promote Affiliate Programs

Finding products you can promote within your content is a great way to make money with your blog. One way to do this is to sign up for an affiliate program for the items you would like to promote. Once you’ve found them and signed up you’ll receive a link (your affiliate link) that you can use to send your blog readers to the product. When they make a purchase using your link, you’ll be rewarded with commissions.

When posting your content, think of items that will compliment the content and search for affiliate programs for those types of products. For instance, if you’re posting an article that discusses using video online, you could promote the software you use to create your own videos. Do you have a product or service you love and couldn’t live without? Put together a product review and use your affiliate link to send your reader to the company’s website. A word of caution with reviews a reader can tell if you’re just pushing a product to make a sale so be honest. If there is something you don’t like about it, tell them.

Search Engines Many times you can put the type of product you’re looking to promote plus the words affiliate program into your browsers search feature and you’ll find lots of options.

2. Adsense as a Blog Monetizing Strategy

Do you see those blocks of ads on blogs and websites throughout the web that Ads by Google at the bottom? Those are ads published via Googles Adsense program.

Google sends targeted ads based on the content that appears on your blog. You can sign up for an account with Googles Adsense program for free. Once you sign up you’ll be able to set up the type of ads you’d like fed to your blog (text ads, block ads, banner ads, and more). As the content on your blog changes, Google changes the ads and you’re paid whenever someone clicks on the ads.

When done correctly, you can make very good money with Adsense, but it does take a bit of testing and tweaking to find the combination of ads that will work best for your individual blog. People are used to seeing these ads and although many people do ignore them, there are many more who will click the links and you’ll be compensated when they do.

3. Create & Sell Your Own Info Products

Ok, I know you’re probably shaking your head after reading number 4. You’re probably wondering how in the world you have the time to write your own information products when you’re trying to save time and energy by NOT writing all your own blog posts. Hear me out, I promise it’ll be worth it. ?

Just like your blog posts, you can create information products that you can sell to your readers without writing all of the content yourself. The absolute best (and easiest) way to do this is by purchasing PLR content that centers around the topic of the info product you’d like to create and rework it a bit and compile it to create an eBook or guide you can then put up for sale. Here’s an example of what I mean:

Lets say you have a blog about Green Living. One thing your readers would love to know is how to live a greener life without paying tons of money on things like solar panels, costly home additions, etc. You’ve decided you’d like to create an eBook to help them go green by making small changes to their everyday lifestyles without breaking the bank. You’d also like to show them ways they can not only live a greener life, but even save money in the process. We’ll call the product: Go Green without Breaking the Bank: Small Changes You Can Make to Live an Eco-Friendly Life while Saving Money.

The first thing you’d do is start searching for private label rights content that fits your subject. Next, you’ll want to compile all the PLR you’ve purchased into a logical, valuable document. Now, its time to add your own advice, tips, knowledge, etc. on the subject and form your finished product.

You’ve now created an entire eBook without having to write the majority of it yourself. Save your brain power for marketing your newly created product. Just remember, make any PLR you purchase your own by reworking it to fit your needs and add to or take away information as necessary.

4. E-Courses & Newsletters

Another great way to monetize your blog content is by adding free eCourses to your arsenal. You can put together eCourses that will give your readers further information about the topic of your blog.

For instance, if you run a blog about Labrador Retrievers, why not create a short 5 day eCourse that tells owners of Lab puppies the best tips and tricks for house training the newest member of their family. Or, create an eCourse that gives important information on raising Labs specifically.

You can use PLR content or take content you’ve previously posted on your blog to create your eCourses.

Grab pre-written PLR eCourses on Internet marketing topics at

Simply load the eCourse into your email management system (I use ARPReach) and sprinkle promotions for affiliate products throughout the course. Once you have the course set up, copy and paste the HTML or JavaScript for the sign up box into your blog. Then market the course via your blog posts, on Twitter, and other places.

This brings me to the next step in making money with your blog bringing in visitors.

5. Ad networks.

Ad networks are programs that serve ads onto your blog. Normally they pay per thousand impressions. (Usually described as CPM.) So, an ad network that pays 3 CPM would pay 3 for every 1000 times the ad was viewed.

There are many sites like this online and you can find them by searching Google.
