Self Care — It Sounds So Simple!
But You and I both know that it’s not! It takes some focus.
I’m a mom, a caregiver (helping my Mom who is a 4x breast cancer survivor), a wife/partner, business owner, board member x2, volunteer and so many more things!
You know it.
I’m the one that schedules the car repairs, drops the car off, goes to the vet with the animals, decides if we can afford it or how we will do it.
I take the girls on appointments, or go on runs or…. and I’m not saying my partner doesn’t help because he totally does!!
But self care gets pushed down the list of things to do! It’s hard to prioritize my own self care.
The Self Care Journey is designed to shift some of that energy and time to personal self care!
To help identify areas of self care and strategies for making change.
Every month, we tackle one area of self care. No matter when you sign up, get started with that month. This is NOT a January – December program.
The habits will focus on include:
• Sleep
• Eating Right
• Exercise
• Setting Healthy Boundaries
• Treat Yourself
• Practice Gratitude
• Get Outside
• Learn Something New
• Relax and De-stress
• Work on Relationships
• Be More Mindful
• Reflect
Every month, I will host a LIVE session and add more resources to the area with that focus!
Trying to change is hard. Trying to change everything at the same time is impossible.
That is exactly why the focus is one step at a time and practicing for 30 days. As you add new skills, new self care you can build upon it.
In your lifetime you’re probably going to be asked this a few thousand times. Or at least it seems like you are. The problem is, when a question becomes so common it tends to carry less meaning. We answer, “Fine” without thinking, an automatic response much like saying “Hello.”
But are you fine? Really?
All too often we’re busy. Stressed. There’s just too much going on in the day and we’re already short on time. We’re not as fine as we like to pretend we are. If we’re honest, we’re probably not spending as much time on ourselves as we ought to. In short, we’re neglecting self-care.
If you think self-care isn’t a big deal, then consider these statistics taken from various studies:
- 75% of people are chronically dehydrated
- 30% of Americans are overweight
- 70% of people feel like they don’t get enough sleep at least once a month
(11% having trouble sleeping on a regular basis)
- 75% of Americans are tired before they even show up to work.
- 17% of Americans are anxious
- 7% are depressed
If you just winced from reading this list, you’re not alone. No, we are not fine, and it’s time we did something about it.
In this course we’re going to explore the importance of self-care. More importantly, I’m going to show you how to build new habits which will help you practice better self-care. How? Well, you’re going to want to keep this book handy, because we’re going to explore a new self-care strategy every month. By this time next year, you’re going to feel like an entirely different person.
So, get ready to dig in. It’s going to be an exciting new year leading to an exciting new you!
