New Periscope Just Out. See What’s Happening! So You Didn’t Win The Powerball Billion, Now What? It’s Up To You To Create Your Financial Future. H

greig1If you are like me — then you didn’t buy the winning ticket to the BIG Billion Dollar lottery. So, what next?  It is up to US.  Me and YOU!!  We have to build our own empire!  It is Doable and it is possible.

You and I can build huge empires –sellable businesses.  It takes a good strategy or two and consistent– massive ACTION.

I start with the VISION — where am I going? What is the BIG Vision.

Then I move on to the strategy.  This is key. Most people are jumping to tactics.  And they are not stringing them together into an effective and proven strategy. So you do some marketing and nothing happens. You blame the marketing.  But chances are that you didn’t have a full out strategy.

The marketing did its part but you didn’t know what to do with the leads.  My favorite example of this is trade shows.  You pay for a booth, you invest in your display, you come up with a giveaway and YOU FAIL to follow up with your leads or you don’t even collect them.  Instead you HOPE that people will call you and believe me they will NOT.

I have attended hundreds of shows where I have filled out the cards, or left my card and even had conversations about how I wanted the service.  And I rarely hear anything else from the person.

Change YOUR mindset and your strategies.

Do I Need Online Marketing?

Online Marketing is Important to Your Small Business Marketing Strategy

do i need online marketing as part of my plan
This is a question that comes up time after time, when I talk with a small business owner, that has a primarily offline business. Do I need to be online? My answer is YES! Yes, you need to be ONLINE and you need to do it well.

Online has several components to it and depending upon the industry your online presence may be limited by regulation, but you still NEED to be online.

There are billions of good reasons to be online. The billions — are potential customers and clients. Each business whether local or global should have an online presence that does a few things for them.

1. educates potential customers and leads
2. captures potential leads
3. engages with customers
4. communicates with leads and customers about the company, events, special offers, new services or products….
5. is a resource for customers and leads.

I hear people tell me, “well my business is all referrals” or “I don’t need online marketing, my business is all local” or “I hate being online” or “my customers aren’t online”.

I love these.  They each may be true to a point, BUT what about the customers that are online, that are searching for what you offer, that are using their cell phone to find a local business of your type?

Do you really have all of the business that you need?

Most small business owners that I talk with are talking with me because they NEED more business. It’s not just a want, its a NEED.

So, do you NEED to be ONLINE?  YES!!

You Do NEED To BE ONLINE!!

To get there, there are a couple of things I recommend first:

  1. A blog!  Just like this, a blog can be the hub of your marketing.
  2. From a blog you can syndicate your content to several social media sites.

With this ONE step you are building an online presence.

The next key to building an effective online presence is your listings on key directory sites.  This is especially important for local businesses.  You MUST be listed on Google Local Listings….it is here that people that are trying to find you, will.

These sites link back to your website, your phone number and often to directions to your place of business.

With the growth of smart phone usage, this becomes even more critical. AND, you need to be sure that your site is mobile friendly or responsive so that it works on different devices.

Local Directories Help Your Local Listings…

Do You Show Up In The Local Directories?

Online directories can help your business to be found online, especially for your local area.

Online directories are very beneficial for small businesses. You just have to know how they work.

Local Directory InfographicAn online directory is a website submission service that allows your small business’s website to be added to a specific category where it can be searched for by interested viewers. These searchable online directories allow their viewers to search for websites and businesses that they find interesting or that they want to learn more about. Listing your small business on an online directory increases your website’s visibility on the web and helps to create inbound links to your business’s website. Online directories make it easy for people to find what they are looking for. These directories can be accessed from just about anywhere that has an internet connection. This means that people could find your business’s website from their home, office or even while traveling.

Local Search — What’s YOUR Score??

localsearchAre You Showing Up In The LOCAL SEARCH?

Local search for local businesses is critical in being found online.  It means that you need to have your business properly listed in all of the relevant search engines.  When you do, then your business can be found by people looking for what you sell.

Local search is important especially for locally based businesses such as restaurants, chiropractors, dentists, massage therapists, retail stores, lawyers, accountants, electricians, contractors, painting companies, roofers etc.  If you do not come up when your prospects are looking for you: ie…. YOUR BUSINESS TYPE + LOCATION, then you are missing many new clients or customers.

Check YOUR LOCAL SEARCH Score:

I just added a new local search evaluator.  You can enter your business and zipcode to run a complete report on your business.  Almost every business we have checked needs work!!  That is probably you too.

The report is totally free so don’t be shy.  We all are working to be found and now you can see what is helping and what is hurting your local listings.

10 Facts You Need to KNOW about Local Directories:

  • Searches within local directories account for a whopping 10 billion of the searches that are made every month. (GetListed.org)
  • YouTube is the second-largest social networking site in the world. While it’s still behind Facebook – the largest networking site with 1.2 billion active users – YouTube surpassed Twitter in 2014. (businessinsider.com)
  • At the end of 2014, Google+ Business had 540 million users. 240 million of those were active in any given month. (nydailynews.com)
  • 90 per cent of users on Yelp say that if a business has a positive review, they are more likely to buy from them. (mashable.com)
  • 79 per cent of users say that they treat positive reviews just as they would getting a personal recommendation from a friend or family member. (localvox.com)
  • Yelp currently has over 47 million local reviews. (localvox.com)
  • Despite that, there are still 87 per cent of small businesses that don’t use review sites such as Google+ Business or Yelp. (mashable.com)
  • When online consumers shop online, 73 per cent of the time they were also searching for a store location. (online-behavior.com)
  • Half of the users looking for an online purchase do not start their search with a search engine, but rather through a local directory. (AT&T Small Business Technology Poll 2013 – yola.com)
  • 90 per cent of customers who look for a local business through their smartphone call or visit that business within 24 hours. (online-behavior.com)

Checking your local search results can change your business.  NOW — it is of course important to have a lead capture system on your site as well as a compelling offer and the right messaging…. Effective online marketing is a combination of tactics.

Could Your Marketing Strategy Be WRONG?

LeadGeneration_Design1_03Marketing Strategy is more than just tactics

Could it be that everything you’ve learned about marketing is wrong?  Well, we are seeing many, many businesses fail and it is largely due to lack of leads, conversions and increased revenue.  Would a business fail if it had all the leads it needed coming into it each and every day? Would a business fail if they had a system for converting leads to clients or customers — consistently?

But many do not have these systems in place.

New Business Leads Are Often the Make or Break of Business

Leads come and then they go. Or they sit stagnate without followup or follow through.

Systems that generate leads are no good if you do not have a system to convert the lead to a client or customer — either now or in the future.

If you are not capturing the leads that come your way — then you have wasted both time and money.

How do you put all of the pieces together? It is a puzzle, but there is a strategic way to put the pieces together.

It is not just a haphazard throwing together of tactics. They are no good to you without strategy.

For instance, if you decide to exhibit at a trade show but then have no follow up strategy — you have just wasted, time, money and marketing collateral at the trade show and you are feeling like the show didn’t work.  What really didn’t work was YOU!  Follow up is the biggest area of failure for business owners.  They put together marketing tactics and do not have the complete marketing strategy thought out.

Marketing effectively is strategic.  It is a process and a system —> from beginning to end.

If you run an ad without a planned strategy and system then you have flushed money right down the toilet.  Will you get calls?  Maybe, but without a system those calls will go no where.

Learn the pieces of what is wrong with your marketing strategy so that you can fix it!!

Stop Blocking Mobile Users

Stop Blocking Mobile Users with a Mobile Website

There are many who claim the future of marketing lies in the internet. However, the future of the internet is mobile, which is why all local businesses need to have a mobile website.

Smartphones are quickly becoming the most popular way to use the internet. This is why savvy local business owners not only need to have an online presence, but a mobile online presence.

Recent statistics have shown that more than half of mobile phone users in the United States are using their smartphones internet. Not only that, but most of these individuals are actually researching potential purchase opportunities while on their phones web browser. This means well over 120 million people in the United States are using their smart phones as a way to access the internet to research potential purchases.

The primary goal of any mobile website should be to keep your company name in the minds of existing customers, while making your small business more visible to those who arent already familiar with your services. Approximately 95% of people who own smartphones look for local information on their devices.

More than half of these people will then contact a company after they have searched for information. If potential customers are not able to find your companys information on their mobile devices you may be losing potential business.

When it comes to making sure your mobile website truly captures the attention of new and existing customers, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind.

First, make sure that you have created a website that has been specifically designed for use on mobile devices. An exact copy of an existing desktop website will not always transfer to mobile devices.

Next, make sure you are consistently updating your site. Much of the success behind smart phones comes with users desire to access new information on the go. If you are keeping your website fresh and relevant, you can provide the valuable information that most smart phone users look for.

Just as you can use different strategies to advertise a traditional website, there are a few strategies you can utilize to specifically advertise your mobile site as well.

QR code advertising is one way to make sure the word about your mobile website is getting out to the public. QR codes are small square barcodes that can be printed on everything from signs and pamphlets to t-shirts and bumper stickers. Smart phone users can scan these codes directly with their devices and it will take them to your companys mobile website, special discounts, coupons, or just about any other digital destination you want.

Finally, if you are looking to stay in contact with the Mobile World it is important that content is easy to read and is smartphone-friendly. Content on mobile sites needs to be even more succinct than on regular websites as it can difficult to read lengthy information while on the go.
